Melisha, ‘Mo,’ Rogers has been a caregiver and companion to Phyllis Montgomery for six years. Ms. Montgomery, 91, has an advanced stage of dementia. Mo keeps up a constant conversation with Ms. Montgomery, who doesn’t speak very much. “She’s a really sweet lady. Very funny, too,” Mo says. “You just never know what she’s going to do. She’s unbelievable.”
It’s the first snow that 2 and a half-year-old Del McGee can say the word snow. On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, Del and her mom Cordon Folds McGee take a trip to Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, N.C. to play. “She’s going to freeze her mouth in all this snow,” says McGee. “And that’s her hedgehog hat. Her favorite animal in the whole world.”
Robert Burnette lives alone in a mobile home in Chapel Hill, N.C. He works in the area as a painter, carpenter and home renovator. In his spare time he fixes up cars for himself and for friends. “It keeps your mind off things, keeps you busy, out of trouble,” he said. Burnette works on the engine of a 1977 Chevy he bought from a man for $500. He intends to race the truck in a drag race next year.
